DAY 4 - MON 16TH - DAY 1 OF COMMUNITY PROJECT

After breakfast - cereal, bread, hot drinks - at 7am, everyone got ready to walk to the village of Tineghrine. We left the Gite at 8:15am and walked some 90 minutes downhill in the sun to the village of Tineghrine. On arrival we were greeted and given some mint tea. After a little rest we started work. Half of us were given pick axes to dig into the mountain side to enable the villagers to lay a water pipeline. The other half of the group carried bags of sand and rubble from the bottom of the village to near the top to allow the villagers to make cement and concrete to use to help build their water resivour. After a few hours work the villagers served us lunch at 12:30pm, we had couscous, vegetables, meat and melon. We were given some time to have a siesta and then back to work or playing with the kids for some of us. At 3:30pm the villagers served us soup and at 4:30pm we left the village. After a 90 minute uphill walk back to the Gite many of us had a shower, cold for many of us! We had some time to relax and then at 8pm dinner was served - soup, bread, spagetti, vegetables and melon. Everyone then set off to their bedrooms.

Approx trekking this day: 3 hours + walking inside village whilst doing community walk.

DAY 5 - TUES 17TH - DAY 2 OF COMMUNITY PROJECT

After breakfast - cereal, bread, hot drinks - at 7am, everyone got ready to walk to the village of Tineghrine. Again, we left the Gite at 8:15am and walked some 90 minutes downhill in the sun to the village of Tineghrine. After having a short rest, some mint tea and fresh bread we got back to work. Today's work was mainly carrying bags of sand and rubble from the bottom of the village to near the top to allow the villagers to make cement and concrete to use to help build their water resivour. After a couple of hours of work we were served lunch at around 1pm - salad, bread and melon. We then had a break. Some of the group went up the mountian in the village, others played games with the village children while the rest of the group rested. At 3pm we said our goodbyes to the villages. They were very thankful for our help and said we could come back anytime to stay rather than work. We then headed off to the vilalge of Ikis where we gave our material donations and had some mint tea. At 4pm we left the village and hiked back to our Gite where we arrived at 5.45pm. On the way back to the Gite we came across a little shop in one of the villages where we purchased sweets, chocoloates and other snacks. On arrival to the Gite, a shower queue formed as today we had warm showers! After resting, dinner was ready at 8pm - chips, rice, omlette and peaches. By around 9-9:30pm everyone was back in their rooms.
